our natural dyed tote bag is suitable to use as an everyday bag. simply by tying a knot on the strap, you can adjust the length of the strap to suit your desired length.

since ancient times in japan, kaki shibu, also known as persimmon dye, has been used to strengthen paper, fabric and wood. it is used for it’s antiseptic, anti-bacterial, water-repellent and insecticidal properties. it is one of the oldest existing traditional form of natural dyes. 

the beauty of kaki shibu is how it transforms and matures into a deeper color the more sunlight it receives. the process of making the dye is by first extracting the juice of unripe persimmons, and then allowing it to ferment for at least a year. using the fermented persimmon juice, the fabric is dyed and aged under the sun.

as it is hand dyed, each piece is unique and actual product color may vary slightly from photo.
