since ancient times in japan, kaki shibu has been used to strengthen paper, fabric and wood. it is used for it’s antiseptic, anti bacterial, water repellent and insecticidal properties. the juice of unripe persimmons is first extracted, then fermented and aged for many years. it is one of the oldest existing traditional form of natural dyes.
